“More than 1 in 3 adults have some form of cardiovascular disease. The good news is 80% of heart diseases and stroke can be prevented” ~ www.heart.org
A member of our Guild Wars community has informed us they will be taking part in their local “Heart Walk” on October 27th. The Heart Walk is a fundraising event from the American Heart Association to raise funds for research projects. According to their website “Cardiovascular disease is the No 1. killer of all Americans” which is alarming when you pair it with the other statement ”80% of heart diseases and stroke can be prevented”. What can we do about it? We can help support these fundraisers and help push that prevention percentage higher!
Stephanie, a GW-EN listener, is participating in her local heart walk in support of her mother who has been diagnosed with a rare heat disease. We were also told, ironically, her mother is the “chest pain coordinator” for one of the hospitals involved in hosting a Heart Walks. Please check out her donation page to find out more here.
As gamers we often get a bad reputation for spending many hours at a time in front of our monitors. It’s easy to forget just how important it is to get up and take a break once in a while! The Heart Walk also works to promote physical activity and all of us should be more aware of how much physical activity we are getting. It can be the difference between good and bad health. As always awareness is key.
You have until October 27th, to show your support for Stephanie! Gamers Giving Back would like to personally wish Stephanie the best of luck with her walk and we hope to see more of the community getting involved in the causes that are important to them.
